DREAM Act Still a Dream
October 24 , 2007
We here at NETWORK are saddened by the defeat of the DREAM Act this afternoon. Despite bipartisan support, by a vote of 52 to 44 the Senate declined to limit debate on the issue and therefore blocked it from coming to the floor. Many of the senators voting no said they were doing so because they did not want to deal with immigration in a piecemeal fashion. This is ironic since they are some of the same senators who scuttled comprehensive immigration reform in July 2007.
We are grateful for the QUICK activism of our members. We set an internet speed record for e-advocacy. In less than 24 hours, NETWORK activists generated more than 1500 emails to senators and made uncounted number of calls. We are grateful for your partnership in trying to change the direction of this debate.
We can’t stop now! We have to continue to make the issue of the positive reform of immigration law an issue front and center in the coming elections. This would be a step for the common good!
Let’s not lose heart! Let’s make change happen!
