International Trade Week of Action

This week, NETWORK joins the Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance in sponsoring International Trade Week (October 14-21) during which millions of people from across the globe are engaging in activities calling for trade justice. NETWORK joins them by calling to Congress to set aside pending trade agreements with Peru, Columbia, Panama and South Korea and make an honest assessment of U.S. trade policy. Authentic trade policies should benefit both partners to the agreement. Current trade policies based on the NAFTA model and negotiated through Trade Promotion Authority harm workers and farmers (displacement of 1.3 million farmers in Mexico), while increasing the wealth of the upper class and corporations in each country.
