Immigration Bill Update – Continued Monitoring Needed
June 5, 2006
On May 25th, the U.S. Senate passed a sweeping immigration reform bill. NETWORK appreciates the bipartisan effort on the part of the Senate to pass a reasonable and comprehensive bill. While the Senate-passed bill, S. 2611, contains several good elements such as a path to citizenship, family visa backlog reduction, new legal channels for immigration, AgJobs and the DREAM Act, there are also many troubling provisions in its almost 900 pages.
NETWORK will continue to monitor this bill and advocate for improvements as it heads to conference with H.R. 4437, the Sensenbrenner bill.
