Laura Peralta is originally from San Francisco and began her career working at the Democratic National Committee. She then worked at a Democratic political consulting firm before becoming a lobbyist for a U.S.-based company where she worked for eleven years. She left lobbying in 2000 to spend time with her then young daughters, Kate and Claire, and became a high school teacher in Fairfax County, Virginia where she taught World History and AP Government. After six years of teaching, she decided to return to lobbying with a goal of working for people living in poverty. Laura has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from San Jose State University and a JD from the Washington College of Law at American University.
