Medicaid: California

Status:

June 28, 2012: Following the Supreme Court decision, Governor Jerry Brown (D) indicated his support of accepting federal funding to provide health coverage to the uninsured. With Democratic majorities in the legislature, it is expected that California will move forward with this decision.

Medicaid: Oregon

Status:

June 28, 2012: Following the Supreme Court decision, Governor John Kitzhaber (D) voiced his intention to accept federal funding to provide health coverage for the uninsured. With a Democratic majority in the Senate, and the House split evenly, Oregon is leaning towards accepting this money.

Medicaid: Washington

Status:

January 9, 2013: Governor Jay Inslee (D), elected this past November, supports accepting federal funding to provide health coverage for the uninsured. There is some concern in the legislature regarding their support of accepting this funding.

Ways to Get Involved:

Medicaid: Arkansas

Status:

April 17, 2013: A plan to use additional Medicaid dollars to purchase coverage for the uninsured passed both the House and the Senate. Governor Mike Beebe (D) has also been a strong supporter of using these federal dollars to provide health coverage. Pending final approval from HHS, this private option will extend health coverage to all those under 138% of the federal poverty line.

Status:

July 1, 2012: Following the Supreme Court decision, Governor Bobby Jindal (R) rejected federal funding to provide health coverage for the uninsured. With Republican majorities in both the House and Senate, there is much work to do!

Medicaid: Texas

Status:

July 9, 2012: Governor Rick Perry (R) has rejected federal funding to provide health coverage for the uninsured. With Republican majorities in the legislature, there is much work to do, but there have been 22 different versions of Medicaid expansion bills filed in the legislature.

Medicaid: Arizona

Status:

May 16, 2013: Governor Jan Brewer (R) announced she will accept federal funding to provide health coverage to the uninsured. Budget legislation that allows Arizona to accept this federal funding has passed the Senate, but strong opposition remains in the House.
