During a press conference today, Sister Simone Campbell, Executive Director of NETWORK, A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby, joined other civil rights and immigration reform leaders in praising the speed and intensity with which the administration and Senate are addressing the crisis of a broken immigration system in our country. NETWORK has a long history of working on comprehensive reform, and, although the details have not yet been released, we are encouraged that a pathway to citizenship seems to be part of the current plan. We look forward to hearing more and to working with many thousands of activists to make commonsense immigration reform a reality very soon. It is long-overdue. Read more

NETWORK strongly supports the administration’s recommendations to address the crisis of gun violence in our nation. Sister Simone Campbell, who met with Vice President Biden last week and was present today when President Obama announced the recommendations, calls on Congress and all people to support life by limiting gun violence. We are grateful that the administration and the Senate have worked out an agreement to move forward to responsibly funding our nation while protecting those who work in low-wage jobs. We have advocated for a “Faithful Budget” that raises “reasonable revenue for responsible programs.” Our reading of the current agreement is that, while not including everything we had advocated for, it does provide a significant step forward toward responsible, faithful policies.
