November 13, 2012: Governor Robert Bentley (R) has rejected federal funding to provide health coverage for the uninsured. With Republican majorities in both the House and Senate, there is much work to do!

As of January 31, 2013: Governor Bill Haslam (R) has not yet made a decision on accepting federal funding to provide health coverage for the uninsured. With a Republican majority in the General Assembly, there is much work to do!

May 9, 2013: Governor Steve Beshear (D) has decided to accept federal funding to provide health coverage for the uninsured, and it appears unlikely that opponents in the legislature will be able to block implementation.

January 15, 2013: Governor Mike Pence (R) has rejected federal funding to provide health coverage for the uninsured. With Republican majorities in the legislature, there is much work to do, but a group of Democratic Senators have introduced a bill to accept this federal funding.

June 13, 2013: Governor Rick Snyder (R) has decided to accept federal funding to provide health coverage for the uninsured. This legislation has also passed in the House, but still faces strong opposition in the Senate.

June 28, 2012: Following the Supreme Court decision, Governor Pat Quinn (D) expressed his intent to accept federal funding to provide health coverage for the uninsured. It is expected that the state legislature will also support this decision.

November 29, 2012: Governor Jay Nixon (D) supports accepting federal funding to provide health coverage for the uninsured. With strong Republican majorities in both the House and Senate, there is still much work to do!

May 22, 2013: Gov. Terry Branstad, who was originally opposed, reached a compromise with legislators who were in support of accepting federal funds to provide health coverage to the uninsured, so that 150,000 additional Iowans will gain access to coverage.
